![]() ![]() This setting is in the Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files node in the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in. ![]() You can encrypt the cache in one of two ways:īy using Group Policy to enable the Encrypt the offline files cache policy setting. The cached copy on the local computer is affected, but the associated network copy is not. When you enable encryption, all files in the Offline Files cache are encrypted, including existing files and any files that you add later. This might pose a security risk in some environments. By default, the cache on the local computer is not encrypted, so any encrypted files that are cached from the network are not encrypted on the local computer. While access control lists (ACLs) protect the Offline Files cache on NTFS partitions by default, encrypting the cache enhances security on a local computer. I know this is an old thread and you answered your own question -) but I thought I would leave this bit here about encrypting the offline file cache just in case someone else comes along and needs info on it: ![]() I have rebooted workstation several times. I am not getting any error messages in any logs that I can find either on the workstation or on the server. I have also enabled a File Recovery agent on the server and the certificate appears to be valid (not expired). On the server group policy I have enabled the Encrypt Offline Files Cache under Computer, Policies, Admin Templates, Network/Offline Files. If I open up my offline files folder I see that none of my offline files are encrypted (I have tested this as well). ![]() I am testing with my workstation to encrypt the offline file cache and I know that the policy is doing something because on my workstation in my Offline Files, Encryption tab now says "Not all of your files are encrypted" and the Encrypt and Unencrypt buttons are greyed out. I have all user's My Documents folders redirected to the server which has been working fine. I have been trying for over a week now to use a group policy setting to encrypt my offline file cache on my Windows 7 domain workstation. I am wondering if anyone has experience encrypting workstation offline files via a group policy on SBS2011. ![]()
